Your Guide to a Perfect Prep

A truly great waxing experience doesn’t just happen in my studio—it starts with you, a day or two before you even walk through the door. Think of it like this: I’m the expert with the tools and technique, but you’re bringing me the perfect canvas to work with.

Following these simple steps ensures your skin is in prime condition for waxing. This not only leads to cleaner, longer-lasting results but also makes the entire process significantly more comfortable for you. Let’s get you prepped.

The Golden Rule: Let It Grow

To get a clean wax, the hair needs to be at least the length of a grain of rice (about 1/4 inch). This gives the wax something substantial to grip onto so it can pull the hair cleanly from the root. For most guys, this means waiting a minimum of two to three weeks after you last shaved. I know the grow-out phase can be tough, but resist the urge to trim or shave. The result is worth the wait.

 Arrive Clean & Comfortable

Please arrive fresh for your appointment; a quick shower beforehand is always appreciated. More importantly, think about your wardrobe. Wear clean, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing (think sweats, gym shorts, or soft cotton) to your appointment. Your skin will thank you for it later, as tight, restrictive fabrics can cause friction and irritation on a newly waxed area.

A Gentle Exfoliation Is Key

A day or two before your appointment, gently exfoliate the area with a body scrub or loofah. This is a crucial step that buffs away dead skin cells, which helps free up shorter hairs and prevent future ingrowns. Just don’t exfoliate the day of your service, as this can make your skin overly sensitive.

Keep It Pale: No Sun or Tanning

Your skin needs to be calm and healthy for a wax. That means no sun exposure, tanning beds, or spray tans on the area for at least 48 hours before and after your service. Attempting to wax skin that’s been recently exposed to UV rays can cause it to lift and become damaged—a scenario we absolutely want to avoid.

Timing Is Everything: Plan for Big Events

Getting waxed for a vacation, wedding, or big date? Smart move. Just be smarter about the timing. I recommend booking your appointment at least two to three days before the main event. This gives any temporary redness or sensitivity plenty of time to completely disappear, ensuring you look flawless when it counts.

Optional: The Comfort Boost

While totally optional, some first-time clients find it helpful to take an over-the-counter pain reliever, like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), about an hour before their appointment to help take the edge off. It can also be helpful to skip stimulants like coffee or energy drinks right before your session, as they can heighten skin sensitivity.
